We are pleased to share the official summary report of the high-level panel discussion held during the 2nd International RENOINVEST Roundtable, which brought together leading experts from Austria, Hungary, and Slovenia to address the critical question: How can we accelerate energy-efficient renovation across Central and Eastern Europe through financial innovation and policy reform?
Moderated by Wolfgang Amann, CEO of the Institute for Real Estate, Construction and Housing (Austria), the panel featured distinguished representatives from financial institutions, government ministries, and professional associations. Participants included:
Martin Clemens Weber, Erste Bank (Austria)
Roland Papp, Ministry for National Economy (Hungary)
Gyula Nagy, MBH Mortgage Bank (Hungary)
Ildikó Rajné Adamecz, ArchEnerg Cluster (Hungary)
Boštjan Udovič, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia
Their discussion offered in-depth perspectives on the structural, legal, and market-related barriers impeding large-scale renovation, and proposed actionable solutions to mobilise both public and private investments in support of EU climate targets.
Key topics included:
• The implications of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
• The role of green finance and the challenges of implementing the EU Taxonomy
• National case studies highlighting renovation frameworks in Austria, Hungary, and Slovenia
• The essential role of awareness-raising and trusted intermediaries
The report concludes with a call for a coordinated and inclusive renovation ecosystem, emphasising that governments, financial institutions, and citizens must work together to meet the EU’s ambitious 2050 goals.
