Pilot Cases for Sustainable Renovation

The RENOINVEST Documentation on Pilot Cases presents six real-life case studies from Austria, Hungary and Slovenia, covering both private residential and public buildings. The cases examine how different technical renovation solutions and financing models can support deep energy renovation under varying national, regulatory and market conditions. The pilot cases include residential buildings in Vienna, Budapest and Ljubljana, as well as public and social buildings in Bad Eisenkappel, Kecskemét and Sežana. Each case assesses the building and renovation concept, financing alternatives, expected energy performance, implementation challenges and potential for replication.

The report highlights several common lessons: deep renovation is technically feasible, but successful implementation often requires a combination of public support, long-term financing and innovative financial instruments. Early stakeholder involvement, clear communication and stable policy frameworks are also essential, particularly for multi-owner and municipal buildings.

The pilot experiences provided practical input to the RENOINVEST National Action Plans and helped translate project recommendations into realistic and replicable renovation approaches.
