As part of the EU LIFE project RENOINVEST, an online round table for municipalities will take place on Thursday, 12 March 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. The event will bring together municipal representatives and stakeholders from the finance and banking sector, the real estate industry and green finance to discuss practical and forward-looking financing solutions for building renovation.

Building renovation is a key pillar of the energy transition and plays a central role in achieving climate objectives. At the same time, the financing and implementation of renovation measures continue to present major challenges, particularly for municipalities and public institutions. In this context, the round table aims to open up discussion on innovative financing models and support the development of practical, applicable solutions.

The objective of the event is to provide an overview of different financing approaches, present successful examples, and create a platform for dialogue and exchange. By bringing together experts and municipal stakeholders, the discussion will explore new ways of financing building renovation and turning regulatory obligations into concrete local opportunities.

The programme will begin with a welcome and short introduction, followed by keynote presentations from leading experts. Iris Kaltenegger (RENOWAVE.AT) will present the RENO moveup project, focusing on mobilisation, networking and the practical implementation of energy-efficient renovations. Monika Auer (ÖGUT) will speak about the role of energy service providers as drivers of municipal energy efficiency through consulting, financing and implementation. Christian Koch (HYPO NOE) will introduce financing options available to municipalities for energy efficiency measures, while Michael Klewan (KPMG Austria) will contribute further expert input from the perspective of municipal consulting and financial strengthening.

The event will also feature a presentation of key RENOINVEST results, including best practices, a case study and the national action plan, presented by Susanne Formanek, Christina Böckl (RENOWAVE.AT) and Samuel Kok (IIBW).

A central part of the programme will be the discussion round with experts and municipal representatives, moderated by Dr. Wolfgang Amann, FH lecturer and managing partner of IIBW. The discussion will focus on alternative financing models beyond conventional approaches, including sale-and-leaseback solutions, energy services, regional renovation associations and green bonds. Participants will also address initial findings related to building stock and EED III requirements, such as financing needs and identified hot spots, as well as the broader question of how renovated and climate-friendly buildings can create added value for communities in economic, social and participatory terms.

The round table offers municipalities and sector stakeholders a valuable opportunity to gain insights, exchange experiences and identify practical pathways for advancing energy-efficient renovation in line with the new EED III framework.
